Plastering & Repairs in Darlaston

Plaster repair in Darlaston before decorating — cracks, blown patches, ceiling repairs and full skims. Sorted first, so the paint lasts.

There is no point painting a wall that is coming apart. A lot of Darlaston terraces have blown plaster where damp got in years ago, and hairline cracking where the house has settled and been settled for fifty years. Both are fixable and both are cheaper than repainting twice.

What's involved

Plastering & Repairs in Darlaston, done properly

Cracks cut out and filled

Raked open, filled properly and feathered in, so it does not reopen through the paint in six months.

Blown plaster patched

Hollow sections taken off back to sound material and made good, rather than filled over and hoped for.

Ceiling repairs

Old lath and plaster ceilings patched or overboarded and skimmed, depending on what is actually left up there.

Skimmed ready to paint

A full skim where the wall is past patching, left flat and ready for a proper finish.

Plastering & Repairs — your questions

Can you just fill the cracks and paint over?

On a hairline crack, yes. On anything that has opened up or where the plaster sounds hollow, filling over it buys you a few months. We will tap the wall and tell you which one you have.

How do I know if the plaster is blown?

It sounds hollow when you tap it and often looks slightly proud of the wall around it. Very common in the older Darlaston terraces where damp has been through at some point.

Do you do the decorating after?

Yes, and it is worth doing as one job. A skim needs to dry properly and be sealed with a mist coat before top coats, and we plan the timings around that.
